Making our own yam cake

We tried making our own yam cake or "orh kueh" as they call it in Teochew. This is our first attempt at making the yam cake. It may not look nice but honestly speaking, it tasted better than all the yam cakes I have eaten from the hawkers' stalls. We missed out the sliced red chilli and spring onions but it still tasted very good. It's good because we put in a lot of diced yam into the cake. The ones we ate at the hawkers' stalls contained more flour and just small pieces of yam.

Hawker food versus home cooked fried rice

The fried rice prepared by my wife wasn't the best I had in along time. Complementing the fried rice lunch, was chee chong fun, yam kueh and chwee kueh from a hawker stall. I think the hawker fare tasted better than my wife's dry fried rice (hope she won't be reading my blog).
