Hawker food in Japan

Was at the Japanese hawker center this morning for early lunch. The food is good and cheap. It is self-service and payment is made through machine. The beef rice which is very delicious cost S$3 and the ramen is S$4. The stalls are open only on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Japan's "hawker centre"

We had our lunch in a Japanese's "hawker center". The food is cheap and good. The place is relatively clean. It is self-service and you return your meal trays and clean the table after your meal. This is the way the Japanese keep their eateries clean and tidy. The ramen is 320 Yen or about S$4 and the Korean bibimbap is $6. The food is nice and better than those in the restaurants.
The autumn weather is comfortable. It is a sunny day with the temperature hovering around 16c.

France is the 2018 World Cup winner!

Finally, the world cup is over with France becoming the champion. It has been a long month of watching the football in the middle of the night. I've been sleep deprived! Well now it is over, life will be back to normal again.
The above breakfast was taken in a 24 hour restaurant and the ramen was from a typical Japanese ramen shop. I enjoyed almost all the meals in Japan, be it in the restaurants or cooked at home.

Growing tomato cherries and parsley

We are trying to grow cherry tomatoes as well as a few parsley plants. As you can see the tomatoes are still green and may take a month or two before they are ripened. The last picture is the parsley plants.

Bought this packet from a grocery shop in Japan. It's semi frozen and after cooking it, you will find the taste is excellent and the noodles is just the way you want to enjoy. This packet is soyu ramen but there are types too. Soyu ramen is my favorite and it is way much tastier than the expensive ramen sold in SG. A packet cost 200 Yen or $2.40. If you ever come across it I would recommend you buy it.

Japanese Noodles and Octopus Balls

Above was the Ramen we had at Hakata Station before leaving Japan. This is Kyushu Char Siew Ramen with thicker soup than the Tokyo Ramen. The bottom picture was that of Takoyaki or octopus balls. Both items were tasty except that I prefer the Tokyo Shoyu Ramen. You won't believe that the 6 Takoyaki balls cost only 100 Yen or $1.25c. The Ramen was Y1,000 or $12.50 per bowl.

Home cooked ramen

This ramen was cooked by my wife this morning. The slices of pork are known as Japanese char siew. They are different from the Chinese char siew which are usually red in color and roasted or grilled. Japanese char siew does not have coloring added to the meat. Nevertheless, this bowl of ramen is superb!

We ate this ramen at Suntec City  last year and they cost us a bomb. It's not that we aren't appreciative but the taste is not much better than the one above which does not cost more than $3 a bowl.

Japanese noodles (ramen) for lunch@ Takashimaya

Today's lunch was at B2 of Takashimaya. We had the ramen and goyza. Between the 2 of us, we spent $41. Although nice, the food can't be compared to the one we ate in Japan.

Weather, steak, ramen , my teacher & I

The weather is not too hot nor humid today as there was a light rain this morning. Indoor temperature is 29C and outdoor is about 32C. The meals were home cooked. The photo of my teacher and I was edited to have "alien" faces by using "Face Changer" apps.

Chicken ramen@ Takeichi, Suntec City

Since we were at the Suntec City, we tried the ramen at Takeichi. It was authentic and yummy. They serve only chicken and does not contain lard or meat of other animals. The chicken soup stock was thick and tasty. They provide you a flask of clear soup to dilute the soup stock if you do not like it thick.
The top one was the spicy ramen while the bottom was the special ramen. The former was $17++ and latter $15++. Total for the 2 bowls was $40.
